Nicolas Cage and director Lorcan Finnegan talk to “Extra’s” Adam Weissler about their new psychological thriller “The Surfer.” Cage plays a man who revisits his childhood beach to surf with his son and becomes entangled in an escalating conflict with local surfers that pushes him to his limits. Nic recalled his own childhood in California and visiting the Santa Monica Pier every weekend wishing he could surf. Lorcan spoke about the themes the film explores about belonging and ownership and dished on doing some surfing with Nic while filming in Australia — the sharks were always on their minds! Plus, as “Valley Girl” marks its 42nd anniversary, Cage shared memories about how it was an empowering and liberating experience for him as an actor. “The Surfer” is out May 2.
