President Donald Trump shared an AI-enhanced image of himself as Pope on Truth Social late Friday night, sparking a mix of amusement and outrage across social media. In the days leading up to the controversial post, Trump humorously remarked on whom he would like to see as the new pope, saying, “I’d like to be pope. So, we’ll see what happens.”
Marco Rubio, Trump’s former secretary of state, joked on Fox News about Trump’s comments, saying, “You don’t have to be a priest. … I guess I’ll miss out on that one.” Senator Lindsey Graham expressed enthusiasm for Trump as pope, tweeting, "This would truly be a dark horse candidate… Keep an open mind about this possibility!
