The controversy began on May 1, when Gay Times resurfaced a quote from Dylan’s 2022 Sundance Film Festival interview, where he discussed his relationship with Julz while promoting his queer thriller, Ponyboi. In another comment, while refuting criticism of Dylan’s girlfriend, model Rachael Lange, Julz revealed their frustration: "He also hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. Once close, Julz previously celebrated Dylan as their "very first best friend" in a heartfelt birthday post and shared fond memories on National Siblings Day.
