**Last Living Alcatraz Inmate Urges Trump Against Prison Reopening**
The last living Alcatraz inmate, Charlie Hopkins, 93, has implored former President Donald Trump not to reopen America’s infamous prison, viewing the proposal as a likely "bluff" due to its potential expense. Jolene Babyak, an author and Alcatraz historian, bluntly stated, “I have two words: water and sewage.” Former Bureau of Prisons director Hugh Hurwitz described the plan as absurd, saying, “You can’t run a prison in a historic ruin.”
The deteriorating state of the island’s facilities poses significant challenges; they lack modern plumbing, safety fencing, and compliance with contemporary prison standards.
