I Said I Love You First… (Short Film) | Vevo Extended Play
Earlier this year, Vevo had the extraordinary opportunity to capture a special moment in time. Selena Gomez and benny blanco had recently been engaged, and, unbeknownst to the public, were putting the finishing touches on a joint album, ‘I Said I Love You First.’ The title felt like a crack in the door, a subtle invitation to unspool the intertwining of their creative and romantic relationship. So, very quietly, we pushed it open a bit. Over the course of a day at benny’s place, where both their relationship and new album took root, the couple revisited all the moments that make them pop music’s most charming pair: The date that inspired “Sunset Blvd.” The "comfortability" that benny brings to Selena when she’s exploring hard feelings on tracks such as “How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten.” The way his embrace of imperfection creates a surprisingly “fun” and “easy” vocal atmosphere for Selena on “Scared Of Loving You.” One feels like a fly on the wall watching two artists at the top of their game simply sip tea, check microphones, crack jokes, and casually dish details on their creative process. Every relationship – creative, romantic, or otherwise – is a game of give-and-take, and near the end of the piece they really get to the heart of the matter. We won’t spoil it, but it ends with a poignant but light moment from benny. “I love you,” he says earnestly. “I said it second, but I love you.”
