Cheers star George Wendt died in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles on May 20, 2025. In a heartfelt statement following his passing, Wendt’s family expressed, "George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him. Wendt, beloved for his role as Norm Peterson in all 275 episodes of Cheers (1982-93), received six consecutive Emmy nominations for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
